How my journey began

My name is Camilla Crowter and I am an Accredited Play and Creative Arts Therapist (MA, PTUK).

I have worked with children and young people for 20 years, in a variety of roles both in the UK and abroad. I qualified as a teacher in 2005 and have more than 15 years experience working in primary schools. During a sabbatical year in Bolivia in 2013 working with the children of prisoners and with young offenders, I developed a professional interest in helping children and young people to move beyond trauma.

On my return, I developed my role in education, progressing to become an Assistant Head of a large inner-city primary school, supporting staff to better understand children's social and emotional needs. I became increasingly convinced by the potential of Play Therapy to offer healing and hope and, in 2016, took the decision to retrain as a Play therapist.

My approach is holistic and integrative and ensures that the child and their needs are at the centre of our sessions as they use play and creative arts to discover more about themselves. I am passionate about supporting children to make sense of difficult emotions and past life experiences so that they can grow and fully flourish in the future.

I have a huge amount of experience in working with children and families with a range of needs including children who are looked after, children in need and those on the child protection register. I currently run a private practice alongside my work for local authorities in Monmouthshire, Cardiff and RCT.

Due to my background in education, I understand the demands placed on both staff and pupils and the limited resources available to support children who are vulnerable. I am skilled at working closely with school leaders to ensure that children’s needs are identified, therapeutic interventions are well-planned and multi-agencies involved both communicate and collaborate.

I am a certified Parent-Child Attachment Play (PCAP) practitioner. I am a member of PTUK and I follow their ethical framework. I am on the Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists (http://www.playtherapyregister.org.uk) which is managed by PTUK and accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) This programme was set up by the Authority to improve standards and safety for the benefit of the public.

I receive regular clinical supervision and hold a current DBS (Enhanced Disclosure Barring). I have indemnity insurance and carry out regular CPD.
